Macro Social Work Practice: Ph.D. in Social Work
Macro Social Work practice at the Ph.D. level promotes social justice by teaching and conducting applied and theoretical research that informs social work practice. The Macro Social Worker with a Doctorate may also be engaged in studying and shaping public policy either by conducting policy analysis or developing public policy at the local, state, national, or international level.
Employment Opportunities
Most opportunities for Macro Social Work at the Ph.D. level involve teaching undergraduate and graduate students, obtaining external funding, and conducting research at post-secondary academic institutions. There are additional opportunities with local and national research institutions, community organizations, non-profit social service agencies, charities, philanthropies, federal, state and local government social service departments, and as legislative aids in state and federal government. There are multiple opportunities with international non-government organizations (NGOs) and United Nation affiliates, such as United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
