Dear ACOSA Colleagues,

In time for the holiday season, we're very pleased to announce the launch of our newly-redesigned Community Tool Box website, at http://ctb.ku.edu.  And with our announcement, we also extend a warm invitation to ACOSA colleagues to contribute your ideas to it.

As you may know, the Community Tool Box has been providing online information and guidance on community development and health for almost 20 years.  On the site you'll find thousands of pages of free instructional materials - including 300 separate how-to-do-it modules on a wide variety of community topics - together with quick-start Toolkits, a Troubleshooting Guide, a distinctive Ask an Advisor feature, and much more.

With over 4 million unique visitors per year and growing, we have become a go-to resource for community workers around the world.

2014 will mark our 20th anniversary year - though of course, we can't and won't rest on our laurels.  So this fall we redesigned the entire site to make it simpler to navigate and use. It's now more compatible with smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices.  And we're working toward completing an Arabic translation, to complement our fully-translated Spanish version.  If you haven't visited us for a while, we hope you will check out our new site, test it for yourself, and let us know what you think.

But another current goal for us is to increase the interactivity of the Tool Box, and particularly to include contributions from leading innovative community organizations such as ACOSA.  Perhaps we can help you publicize your work to a larger, and global, community.

By "contributions," we mean community-building items of general interest to a wider audience.  For example, we invite you to:

  • Contribute to our blog, at http://blog.myctb.org
  • Add to our growing collection of community success stories, at http://ctb.ku.edu/en/community-stories
  • Share a community tip, tool, example, resource, or innovation
  • Send us or suggest other content of broad general appeal
  • Or, as a different idea: For the appropriate "action" section on your own website, perhaps you might wish to link some of our Tool Box content to yours. We'd be glad to provide you with details on how this might be done.

We're interested as well in other contributions or suggestions you may have. For any of these, we encourage you to be in touch with us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , or at (785) 864-0533.   We look forward to hearing from you.

Through your contributions, you will be helping to strengthen communities where people live and work. But together we can also accomplish another goal: to help strengthen a sense of community among ourselves - among all of us who do the critical work of community building with others.

Thank you for your support.  All of us at the Community Tool Box wish all of you the very best of the holiday season -- and every success in the year ahead!
